Transcranial Laser Therapy

Transcranial Laser Therapy

Transcranial laser therapy is the use of a low powered laser to influence molecular events within the body and the cells. Transcranial laser therapy works via photobiomodulation, using specific light energy to stimulate processes occurring within the brain. This specific light energy reduces inflammation, increases energy production in the cells, stimulates regional blood flow and improves neurogenesis, the healing of neurons in the brain. Recent research suggests this form of therapy is a novel and promising method of improving outcomes of cognitive impairments such as poor attention, bracing fog, poor memory, impaired mood and decision making after concussion and traumatic brain injuries.

Low Level Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation (LLLT or PBM) can help the brain to repair itself by stimulating the growth and formation of connections of nerve cells. LLLT/PBM clinical studies have been conducted in patients suffering from the chronic effects of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) which have reported improvements in executive function, working memory, mood, improved sleep, increased regional cerebral blood flow and tissue oxygenation (Hamblin, 2018).

At Brain + Body Health, we treat a variety of conditions affecting the brain including post-concussion syndrome, mild traumatic brain injuries and conditions causing vertigo/dizziness. The team at Brain + Body Health has been operating in Gladesville for over 15 years, and has implemented Laser Therapy using a Class 4 K-LASER (one of only 3 clinics in Sydney) for the last 5 years into our treatment protocols to improve the outcomes associated with brain based conditions. Since introducing this treatment method into our protocols patients have consistently reported improved sleep, mood, and memory as well as reduced long term concussion symptoms such as brain fog, headaches, dizziness, concentration issues, noise and light sensitivity and blurry vision. These improved outcomes have allowed patients to achieve greater day-to-day satisfaction and return to activities they were previously unable to complete.

We are constantly refining our therapy at Brain + Body Health to provide the best care to our patients so that they can live happy, active and symptom free lives.
