“Knee pain is often a sign of dysfunction in the hip or ankle, if we want long term results we have to address the surrounding areas aswell as the knee”
Why Knee pain occurs
Usually knee pain is a result of poor movement patterns which over time your body can no longer tolerate. When you reach this threshold, you will either have a significant injury or have a slow increase in pain. This can damage the ligaments, cartilage or bone of the knee joint. You may also inflame nerves and have injured tendons. There are many muscles that act on the knee which also act on the hip and ankle, looking at these joints can be key in relieving your knee pain.
Sometimes knee pain comes from your hip not doing its job properly, sometimes it comes from poor foot mechanics. The trick to long term relief is to find the issue causing the knee pain.
Common Causes of Knee Pain
- Runner’s knee (patellar femoral pain syndrome)
- ITB syndrome
- Ligament strain or tear (ACL, MCL, LCL, PCL)
- Meniscus tear
- OCD
