Balance Training

Balance Training

Balance training is often used at Brain + Body Health after completion of a thorough balance assessment assessing the function and integrity of your balance system. Balance requires the integration of our vision (eyes), vestibular sense (inner ears) and proprioception (position sense from muscles and joints). If after assessment one of these systems has been determined to be under-functioning and affecting your balance, training can improve your balance in the same way exercise can increase cardiovascular health and resistance training can increase strength and endurance.

Balance training involves specific exercises and activities which may include changes in stance position (two feet apart, two feet together, heel-toe stance, one-leg stance), use of vision (eyes open then eyes closed), additional cognitive challenges (catching a ball, turning head side to side, talking) or advanced balance training using unstable surfaces such as balance boards.
