Balance for most may seem like an easy task but it is a complicated and highly regulated process that involves a number of systems and connections within the brain. Balance is largely dependent upon the interactions between three major systems; the visual system (eyes), the vestibular system (inner ear) and the proprioception system (muscles and joints). When one of these systems is disrupted by injury, concussion, infection, disease or the aging process you may experience impaired balance, which may be accompanied by dizziness, vertigo, vision problems, nausea, fatigue or even concentration difficulties. At Brain + Body Health, we perform a quick and easy balance assessment to determine which of the previously mentioned systems are under functioning. Based on this information we can then develop an individualised management plan to help improve the integration of these systems to improve balance.
